LEGENDARY RAP TRIO “DMC” WILL BE THE FIRST TO RECIEVE A GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Earth, Wind & Fire and Herbie Hancock are among other recipients of the award this year.

The legendary rap trio Run-DMC is set
to receive a Lifetime Achievement
Award at this year’s Grammys.
Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Joseph
“Reverend Run” Simmons and the late
Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell are going to blaze trails with this achievement, too, much like they’ve done throughout their historic career.

“I just got a call from the Grammys,”
Run shared in a tweet on Wednesday.
“They shocked me! We’re the first
rappers to get this award! Shocked!
Grateful! God is good! I’m so honored
to be a #GRAMMYs Lifetime
Achievement Award recipient this year. Thank you to the Recording Academy!”

The Queens, New York, group’s iconic
run includes classics like “My Adidas,”
“It’s Like That,” and their genre-
bending Aerosmith collab “Walk This
Way.”

Ruth Brown, Celia Cruz, Earth, Wind &
Fire, Herbie Hancock, Jefferson Airplane and Linda Ronstadt are also slated to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

The 58th Annual Grammy celebration
is scheduled to air live on CBS on Feb.
15.
